if a plantar reflex test is negative what will it look liken
if a plantar reflex test is negative, what will it look like?(negative is normal),and what will a + test look like?
Solution
Answer:
The plantar reflex is a reflex elicited when the sole of the foot is stimulated with a blunt instrument. In the plantar reflex test, the lateral side of the sole of the foot is rubbed with a blunt instrument.
If in the reflex, the toes curve down and inwards, and the foot everts, then the test is negative. This is the type of response seen in healthy adults.
If in the reflex, the hallux dorsiflexes (an upward response (extension) of the hallux), known as the Babinski response or Babinski sign, then the test is positive. This indicates the disease of the spinal cord and brain in adults.
