When a photon collides with a single free electron, some of its energy is lost and in the process it deviates from its original path. This is popularly known as Compton scattering (high frequency) / Thompson scattering (low frequency) and the theory of this problem was proposed by Klein and Nishina. The Klein–Nishina formula gives the differential K-N cross section photon scattering from a single free electron. In the proposed work, four different photon energies were used to carry out the study of the absorption and scattering in water. K-N formulation was used to calculate the croos-sections per electrons in different angles as well as per unit mass for all the four photon energies. The photons of each energies were made to pass through outcoming energies have been recorded varying the thickness of water sheet of different thicknesses and the outcoming data had been recorded. The variation of relative outcoming intrensity with thickness of water has been proposed to be linear and the correspoding slopes for the best fits have been reported. Further, the scattered photon intensities have also been detected and their ratio with the direct beam intensity has been recorded for different sheet thicknesses and graphed in order to study the build up factor.
