Explain why during infection White Blood Cell count increase but White Blood Cells count decrease during radiation or chemotherapy?

Solution

White blood cells are one type of blood cells , also known as leucocytes. Their main function is to protect is to protect the body from foreign organisms. So whenever there is infection in the body due to bacterium , virus WBC count will increase , which enables them to fight against infection .

Radiation , chemotherapy are the treatments given to cancer patients to destroy the malignant ( cancer ) cells. During this process other cells of the body like hair cells, red blood cells, mucosal cells, white blood cells are also destroyed. that\'s why we often observe cancer patients losing hair, decreased blood cell count.
