State clearly why the objective of a sine wave generator is to achieve a total harmonic distortion as low as possible for sinusoidal oscillators. State a commonly used component in relaxation oscillators.

Solution

The sinusoidal wave generator output produces sine wave. For getting sinusoidal signal as a output the harmonics distortion should be as low as possible. Because as harmonic distortion increases the amplitude of the sine wave varies. Then the wave get distorted. Hence sinusoidal oscillator should be low harmonic distortion.

Relaxation oscillators can be produce non sinusoidal waveform. And these can be generated using UJT, op-amp etc. But the main components in relaxation oscillator used are capacitor and resistor. Capacitor used for charging and discharging voltage through resistor for a period of time. Again this process is repeated. For getting feedback signal we use opamp, ujt etc.
