Im having trouble with this quesiton. Im not looking for the answer....i need help with setting up the equations. This is Finite Math.
A study showed that for young women a breakfast containing approximately 18 g (grams) of protein, 42 g of carbohydrate, 13 g of fat, and 350 calories is a nutritious breakfast that prevents a hungry feeling before lunch. The following table shows the content of four breakfast foods. How much of each should be served to obtain the desired amounts of protein, carbohydrates, fat, and calories?
Any help would be great. Thanks.
| Protein | Carbohydrates | Fat | Calories | |
| 1 cup of juice | 2 | 24 | 0 | 110 |
| 1 cup of cereal | 8 | 4 | 8 | 120 |
| 1 slice of bread | 2 | 10 | 6 | 100 |
| 1 cup milk | 10 | 13 | 0 | 85 |
Solution
Given that for young women a breakfast containing approximately 18 g (grams) of protein, 42 g of carbohydrate, 13 g of fat, and 350 calories is a nutritious breakfast that prevents a hungry feeling before lunch
X1 no.of cups of juice required, X2 no.of cups of cerals ,x3 no.of slice of bread, x4 no.of cups of milk required to get the nutrious food.
young women required 18 grams of protein.
so the equation is 2 grams of protein from one cup of juice, if x1 no.of cups of juice taken then young woman get 2*x1 of protein
similarly if x2 no.of cups of cerals taken then she gets 8*x2 protein
if x3 no.of slices of bread taken then she gets 2*x3 grams of protein
same way if x4 no.of cups of milk then shet get 10*x4
so total protein is 2*x1+8*x2+2*x3+10*x4 and this should be equal to 18 grams
so the equation is 2*x1+8*x2+2*x3+10*x4=18
similarly for Carbohydrates 24*x1+ 4*x2+ 10*x3 + 3*x4 = 42
for fat is 0*x1+ 8*x2+ 6*x3+ 0*x4= 13 ; 8*x2+6*x3=13
for calories is 110*x1+ 120*x2 + 100*x3 + 85*x4 = 350
Hope this helps you
