A soil sample has a porosity of 30 and a water content of 20

A soil sample has a porosity of 30% and a water content of 20%. Determine the degree of saturation of the soil and the mass density.

Solution

e = n /(1-n)

e =0.3/(1-0.3)

e = 0.428

Using Relation Gw=Se

\"G\" is not given

If we, Assume G=2.67

We get,

2.67×0.2 = S×0.428

S =1.247

S > 1 isn\'t possible

So \"G\" assumed isn\'t correct.

Plz provide the value of G to evaluate S, and hence mass density (y)

Y = (G+Se) Yw/(1+e)
