Spider syndrome is a recessive disease that causes leg deformities in sheep. In many cases, the homozygote recessive (ss) genotype is lethal. However, a heterozygote (Ss) individual can be a carrier of recessive allele and show no symptoms of the disease. In a small population of sheep the following frequencies were observed: Without taking inbreeding into account, what are the expected genotypic frequencies of the progeny of this generation of sheep? What are the expected genotypic frequencies in the progeny of a random female from this population mated to a carrier male?

Since the question specifies random Female there the genotype could be \" Ss \" or \"SS\"

the propbability of PS = 0.83 and Ps = 0.17 in females

mating with a carrier male PS = 0,5 and Ps = 0.5

Therefore

SS = (0.83*0.5) = 41.5%

Ss = (0.83*0.5) + (0.5 * 0.17)= 41.5 % + 8.5% = 50 %

ss = (0.17* 0.5) = 8.5%

or if the female is SS (it can produce only S gamete)

then SS = (1*0.5) = 50%

Ss = (1*0.5) = 50%
