Why is the eukaryotic protein that you just named given this name? What biological process does the diphtheria toxin stop: translation, transcription, protein synthesis, replication, DNA synthesis, ADP ribosylatin, making polypeptides (circle the correct answer(s) There are three major types of exotoxins (see exotoxins in your textbook) What are they?

Solution

Diptheria toxin is an exotoxin secreted by corneybacterium diptheria. It is an AB exotoxin, has two subunits A and B. The toxin inhibits protein synthesis. The B subunit binds to A and allows it to penetrate through the cell surface. Inside the A subunit transfers ADP ribosylates to the host eEF-2( eukaryotic elongation factor2). eEF-2 is required for protein synthesis and when it is inactivated , the host cannot make protein and thus dies.

Exotoxins are the toxins secreted by the bacteria. The 3 types of toxins are
