Determine the total potential energy PE (in kJ) and the specific potential energy pe (in kJ/kg) of an object with a mass m=4.5 kg at 2300 cm above a reference location. Take the gravitational acceleration g=9.8 m/s^2.

Solution

Potential energy is given by relation,

PE=mgh

=4.5 kg(9.8 m/s^2)(2.3 m) @1kg.m/s^2 =1N,1N.m = 1 J

=101.43 J

= 0.101 kJ

Specific potential energy,

PE(specific)=gh

=(9.8 m/s^2) (2.3 m)

=22.54 J/kg

=0.02254 kJ/kg

 Determine the total potential energy PE (in kJ) and the specific potential energy pe (in kJ/kg) of an object with a mass m=4.5 kg at 2300 cm above a reference
