Hello everyone I have a question for nutrition course and I
Solution
9. Folic acid is the fully oxidized monoglutamate form of the vitamin that is used in dietary supplements and fortified foods. It is a B vitamin that\'s important for cell growth and metabolism.
Folic acid reduces the risk for birth defects of a baby’s brain and spine by 50% to 70%. Folic acid may also lower the risk of preeclampsia and early labor. Many doctors recommend that any woman of childbearing age take either a multivitamin or a folic acid supplement. Folic acid can protect against birth defects that may form before a woman knows she is pregnant.
Folic acid is used to treat deficiencies, which can cause certain types of anaemia and other problems. Folate deficiencies are more common in people who have digestive problems, kidney or liver disease, or who abuse alcohol.
If a woman takes folic acid every day before and during pregnancy, it reduces the risk for neural tube defects, a birth defect of the brain or spine. Approximately 1 in every 1,000 pregnancies is affected by one.
10. DHA is called as \'conditionally essential\' in reference to physiologically-essential fatty acids (i.e., essential at high levels in the body tissues and cells for functioning and health) and which can be formed to some limited extent in the body by metabolism but at insufficient rates in a significant portion of the population to sustain optimal health and functioning. In a healthy young men approximately 8% of dietary ALA is converted to EPA and 0-4% is converted to DHA.
