Describe what is meant by “radical cure” and identify the drug that is produces a radical cure for malaria.

Solution

Radical cure refers to the elimination of malaria parasites completely from the body.It specifically refers to the elimination of hypnozoites of P.vivax and P. ovale which are the parasitic stages in the liver and could result in relapse of the infection. A combination of two drugs i.e chloroquine and primaquine produces a radical cure for malaria.
