If you are planning to use steel under water explain why it might be useful to weld a piece of zinc to the steel?

>> As, Steel, ( mostly having low grade carbon), is prone to rusting when it comes in direct contact of Water.

>> In such case, it gets oxidized and gets converted into rust.

>> Now, if we are planning to use Steel underwater, then we must use Galvanised Steel, in order to avoid corrosion.

So, Zinc plate is welded to steel to make it galvanized steel and thus to avoid corrosion, as Zinc is corrosion resistant Material.
