11.   Describe 2 hormones from the pancreas related to blood sugar levels. What cells do these come from?, what are the targets? What are the control mechanisms? (A paragraph or 2)

Solution

Hormones from the pancreas that are related to blood sugar levels are:

Insulin produced by Beta cells. The target of insulin is liver and muscle cells, when insulin, binds to the receptors of liver and muscle cells it leads to signal transduction cascade leading to glucose uptake as; binding of insulin leads to transport of glucose inside the cells.

Glucagon produced by alpha cells. The target of glucagon is liver which has glucagon receptors. Upon binding of glucagon, these receptors lead to signal transduction cascade leading to glucose release by the activation of glycogenolysis and gluconeogenesis.
