What type of sensory receptors allow you to feel pain? Pressure? Is dizziness caused by problems with the sensory receptors in the inner ear or is it the vestibulocochlear nerve? Diabetics often experience retinopathy because blood vessels in the vascular tunic leak underneath the retina. Why is this a problem (think of the structure of the retina)?
Solution
Receptors for pain, touch, pressure are located in the skin, and are known as mechanoreceptors. Noci-receptors are responsible for pain.
Dizziness is caused by problem in sensory receptors of vestibular system or vestibulocochlear nerve. This system is related with the entire balance of the body. Problem in these receptors lead to instability.
Damage to retina of eye resulting in blindness is called as retinopathy. This occurs due to diabetes, and is also known as diabetic retinopathy. Lots of nerve endings and blood vessels are present behind the retina. Arteries present behind retina are filled by blood, causing edema. Edema further blocks the blood vessels. After some time, these blood vessels start leaking their contents into the macular regions. This further causes macular edema. Slowly the entire retina is damaged, resulting in blindness.
