Solution

Miss Smith spent $16 on tubes of paint and disposable brushes

Each tube of paint costs $3

Each brush costs $0.50

Assuming no. of brushes be B and no, of tubes of paint be P

purchases twice as many brushes as tubes of paint. B = 2P

So, B*0.50 + P*3 = 16

2P*0.5 +3P = 16

4P = 16

P = 4 (no. of tubes of paint)

B = 2P = 8 ( no. of brushes
