Consider the following threestation production line with a s

Consider the following three-station production line with a single product that must visit stations 1, 2, and 3 in sequence.

Station 1 has 3 identical machines with an average processing times of 5 minutes per job

Station 2 has 10 identical machines with an average processing time of 20 minutes per job.

Station 3 has 4 machines with average processing times of 3 minutes per job.

How long does it take for a product to go through the entire production line? (.5 points)

What is the cycle time of each station? (.5 points)

What is the bottleneck rate for the production line and what station is it? (1 point)

Compute w0 for production line? (1 point)

What is the takt time of the line given that 5600 parts have to be made over the course of 100 hrs? (1 point)

Can the three station production line make this takt time? If not how many machines would I need at station 1, 2, and 3? (1 point)

Solution

(1 point)

Given Information :

Production Shop : Three-station production line

Single product

This product moves through stations 1, 2, and 3 in sequence.

Station 1 = 3 identical machines

An average processing times of 5 minutes per job

Station 2 = 10 identical machines

Average processing time of 20 minutes per job.

Station 3 = 4 machines

Average processing times of 3 minutes per job.

How long does it take for a product to go through the entire production line?

On every staion there are identical machines so each job will process through 3 machines .

Total time for a product = (Station 1 Processing Time +Station 2 Processing Time + Station 3 Processing

Time)

=5 + 20 + 3 = 28 min.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is the cycle time of each station?

Cycle time :

Processing time is nothing but cycle time

Station 1 = 5 min

Station 2 = 20 min

Station 3 = 3 min

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is the bottleneck rate for the production line and what station is it?

Bottle neck is at Machine 3. In this case the machine process time is 3 min . Total machines are 4 in no.So compairing with other machines & stations , the bottle neck is created here.

= 3 min / 4 machines

= 0.75

So this bottle neck is more.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Compute w0 for production line?

Sorry I could not understand w0 term.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is the takt time of the line given that 5600 parts have to be made over the course of 100 hrs?

Takt time

= Available time for production / required units of production

= (100 *60 ) / 5600

= 1.071

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Can the three station production line make this takt time? If not how many machines would I need at station 1, 2, and 3?

Stations no 3 is not in position to manage this takt time. So this station needs 2 more machine for managing this Takt time.
