The blade on a typical table saw rotates at 3800 revolutions

The blade on a typical table saw rotates at 3800 revolutions per minute. Calculate the linear volocity in miles per hour of one of the teeth at the edge of the 12 inch diameter blade.

Solution

diameter = 12 inch

r ( radius) = 12/2 = 6 inch

w(angular velocity) = @(angle) / t(time)

= 3800*2*pi / 60 ( in 1 revolution, @ = 2*pi)

= 397.73 rad/sec

V(linear velocity) = w*r

= 397.73 *6 = 2386.38 inch/sec

in 1 sec velocity = 2386.38

60 sec ( 1hr) , velocity = 2386.38*60 = 8590968 inch/ hr

[ 1 mile = 63360 inch]

velocity = 135.58 miles/hr
