The general relationship between performance and arousal lev
The general relationship between performance and arousal level is described by the Yerkes-Dobson law: Performance is best at a moderate level of arousal. When arousal is too low, people do not care about what they are doing, and performance is poor. At the other extreme, when arousal is too high people become overly anxious, and performance suffers. In addition, the exact form of the relationship between arousal and performance depends on the difficulty of the task. If the task is easy, the more arousal the better. If the task is hard, then a moderate level of arousal is best. The following data are from a study that attempted to demonstrate the Yerkes-Dodson law. The two independent variables are arousal level (low, medium, high) and difficulty of task (easy or hard). The dependent variable is a measure of performance (higher score suggests better performance). Graph the means Does it appear to have a significant interaction?
