An aerial photograph from a U2 spy plane is taken of a build

An aerial photograph from a U-2 spy plane is taken of a building suspected of housing nuclear warheads. When the photograph is taken, the angle of elevation of the sun is 0.88 radians. By comparing the shadow cast by the building in question to the shadows of other objects known in size, scientists determine the shadow of the building in question is 96 feet long. How tall is the building? feet Preview

Solution

Here we have the rule that as 3.14 radian = 180 degree

so 1 radian= 180/3.14 = 57.32 degree

and thus 0.88 radian = 57.32(0.88) = 50.44 degree that is angle of elevations here.

Now by rule , in a right triangle,

tan A = Heigiht/base               where A is the angle of elevation.

or tan (50.44) = h/96

or 1.21=h/96

or h=1.21(96) = 116.2

so height of the building is 116.2 feet.
