What does the map of the sensory cortex reveal about the density of touch receptors? Explain.
Solution
Cortical Homunculus is a map which represents the anatomical divisions of human body. This is located within the brain. Cortical Homunculus are of two types sensory and motor. The motor cortex is present in precentral gyrus and the sensory cortex is situated in the thalamus. The motor cortex relays the signals arriving from premotor area in frontal lobes while the sensory cortex relays the signal arriving from the post central gyri. The signals are the processed and transferred to the brain stem and spinal cord. Sensory system processes the sensory information like touch, vision, hearing, taste and smell. The map in the sensory cortex analyzes the cutaneous sensations.
