31. Explain the proper procedure for obtaining a solid from a reagent bottle (3 points)

Solution

Usually solids are transferred to a wide mouthed container such as a beaker for sake of convinience.

A beaker is labeled beaker and brought near the reagent shelf where the reagent bottle containing solid is kept. Take the top (lid) off the reagent bottle and place it on clean paper to avoid contaimination. To transfer the solid from reagent bottle to beaker, tip the bottle and slowly rotate the bottle back and forth. Don\'t tip the bottle up high and let the contents pour out.

You can also use a spatula which is placed at the reagent bottle. Do not use your own spatula as it may lead to contamination. After solid is transferred, put the right lid on the bottle. Return the bottle to its place on the shelf.
