Explain how cold water prevents organ damage in drawing vict
Solution
Cold water slows the heartbeat and stops the breathing and redistributes the blood flow toward the organs that need most of the blood and oxygen—the heart, lungs and brain. This is called “the diving response.” Cold reduces the brain’s need for oxygen and permits it to survive longer during an airless period but a lack of oxygen or chemical changes in the lungs may cause the heart to stop beating. This cardiac arrest stops the flow of blood and thus stops the transport of oxygen to the brain. Cardiac arrest is a very usual cause of death in the drwoning victims. The brain cannot survive long without oxygen and the prolonged loss of oxygne , blood combined with the cardiac arrest will lead to the deterioration of brain cells causing first brain damage and eventually brain death and some times paralysis and brain hemmrorage.
