How might adaptors and innovators respond differently to the
Solution
As per the theory X of leadership, the manager assumptions about workers would dislike work and avoid if possible. They also assume that most people should be controlled, directed, forced and threatened with punishment to make them work and have little ambition and always needs to be directed not to avoid responsibilities. Theory X also believes that people need security and want to satisfy their physiological needs than the higher needs. The adapters are the type of people who always like to work according to the rules and try to adopt the methods that are proven safe for solving problems rather than selecting new methods. They always try to do things within the existing system and do not prefer to experiment with untried solutions. Adapters would respond positively with the theory X style of leadership as the adapters prefer to go as per rules. Their high level of conformity to rules is very much suitable for theory X style of leadership. But the innovators are undisciplined and willing to break the rules to become successful. They always try to do things in a different way and find new solutions for the problems. They are ready to find new tasks and take new responsibilities which are opposite to the assumptions made by the theory X managers. Innovators do not confirm to the rules also and they are always trying to satisfy their higher needs rather than safety and other basic needs unlike theory X manager assumptions. Hence innovators do not match to the theory X of leadership.
