According to Robert E. Kelley, a prominent social scientist in followership studies, \'What distinguishes an effective from an ineffective follower is enthusiastic, intelligent, and self-reliant participation—without star billing—in the pursuit of an organizational goal\'\" (Latour & Rast, 2004, para. 7).

Discuss the characteristics of a follower, and share your opinion of Kelley\'s statement.
Solution
There are a number of traits which must be possessed by a good follower. Being focused can be seen as the main trait of the follower. A good follower must be an individual who is not just following the leader blindly but he should also have the reasoning about the following that individual and the logic behind his faith.
Creativity also adds to the personality of a follower. The followers should not only reply to the opinions and ideas of leaders but in fact, their own creativity will be quite helpful in attaining their motto.
Being committed to the goal and towards their leader and being time conscious are other traits to be considered. This will enable the followers to effectively manage their times and use the resources effectively.
The followers must be having full commitment and participation. Honesty and loyalty are the other factors which a follow can look to acquire. Any information shared with them must not be conveyed to another person thus they must be confidential.
Being respectful means they must respect the ideas of fellow followers and other individuals and no objections must be raised to the opinions of seniors. Having good communication is an added advantage for the followers.
Looking all the above-stated characteristics of a follower, the statement given by Kelley seems to be perfectly valid and thus I agree with Kelley that these traits are inevitable for the accomplishment of organizational goals.
