focused factories as a form of market development Basically
\"focused factories\" as a form of market development ( Basically, a focused factory in health care is a health provider or group that focuses solely on one function (or disease or group of related health problems) in order to perform better and more efficiently in that area. Generally, it is thought of as providing services across multiple markets for one specific disease, such as diabetes, renal disease, or cardiac disease.
What are the benefits to this type of strategy and what are possible criticisms of it? Do you believe focused factories should have a place in health care? Why or why not?
Solution
This strategy will have major advantages in terms of specialized care, low cost health care to the patients, more time a particular patient can get, people get reliable care from various experts having more specialized knowledge etc. For example: An eye hospital might have more experts for different care like Cornea specialist, Night blindness, Surgery, eye transplant etc.
The possible criticisms are it lacks more patients (target customers); it might take more operational cost to run this type of focused factories; it might be a case that due to new care centre, it lacks more no. of specialized physicians. The support staff will have to give excess salary in spite of their low workload in the focused factories.
In my views, this focused factory should have a place/ position in the health care sector. But, if more service providers make a joint venture to run such a specialized facilities then it will be successful due to cost sharing and reduction of efforts and time to setting up such a specialized care hospitals. Even, it will be beneficial for removing the critical diseases like H1N1, Cancers, Polio, Tuberculosis, AIDS etc. It will help to clean up a particular type of critical care disease from its root on global basis. Even, physicians and young medical professionals will have a chance to grow as per their area of expertise.
