4 Discuss how to monitor a system’s performance and reliability. Describe a real world scenario where this would need to be implemented.

5 Why is it important to design a system with fault tolerance? What are the factors to consider in implementing your fault tolerance?

6 Discuss the DHCP lease process and what part the DHCP client plays in renewing or leasing an IP address from a DHCP server.

Solution

4)An apparatus and method for monitoring and reporting readability and performance
The apparatus includes a reader for optical symbols which measures and reports
the values of measurements with respect to the symbol and events occurring
during the reading process indicative of the label readability.
A preferred method of monitoring and reporting readability and performance.

5)Faults::
A fault in a system is some deviation from the expected behavior of the system,
a malfunction. Faults may be due to a variety of factors, including hardware
failure, software bugs, operator (user) error, and network problems.
there 3 types
Transient faults:-
These occur once and then disappear. For example, a network message
doesn\'t reach its destination but does when the message is retransmitted.
Intermittent faults:-
Intermittent faults are characterized by a fault occurring, then vanishing
again, then reoccurring, then vanishing, These can be the most annoying of
component faults. A loose connection is an example of this kind of fault.
Permanent faults:-
This type of failure is persistent: it continues to exist until the faulty
component is repaired or replaced. Examples of this fault are disk head crashes,
software bugs, and burnt-out power supplies.

Fault tolerance:-
The realization that we will always have faults (or the potential for faults)
in our system and that we have to design the system in such a way that it will
be tolerant of those faults. That is, the system should compensate for the
faults and continue to function.

6)DHCP Lease process::
A DHCP-enabled client obtains a lease for an IP address from a DHCP server.
Before the lease expires, the DHCP server must renew the lease for the client
or the client must obtain a new lease. Leases are retained in the DHCP server
database approximately one day after expiration. This grace period protects a
client\'s lease in case the client and server are in different time zones,
their internal clocks are not synchronized, or the client is off the network
when the lease expires.

DHCP client renewing:
DHCP clients cycle through six different states during the DHCP lease process
-start or initializing
-selecting
-requesting
-binding
-renewing
-rebinding

IP address lease request from DHCP:
there two users are client and server
-DHCP client
-DHCP server
so DHCP lease process is 4 types
-IP lease request
-IP lease offers
-IP lease selection
-IP lease acknowledgement
