A garden is in the shape of a rectangle and has a perimeter of 58 yards. The length of the garden is 5 more than twice the width. Find the dimensions of the garden.

Solution

Given garden is in the shape of rectangle.

Perimeter of gerden is 58 yards.

Length of the garden is 5 morethan twice the width.

Let width=x yards.

Length=2x+5 yards

Perimeter is twice the sum of length and width.

Perimeter = 2*(Length+Width)

= 2*(2x+5+x)

= 2*(3x+5)

= 6x+10

But, given perimeter of garden is 58 yards.

6x+10=58

6x=58-10

6x=48

x=8

So, Width= 8 yards , Length=2x+5=2(8)+5=16+5=21 yards

Therefore, Dimensions of the garden is LengthXWidth

Dimensions = 21X5
