Two blocks each of mass m 340 kg are hung from the ceiling

Two blocks, each of mass m = 3.40 kg are hung from the ceiling of an elevator as in the figure below.

What is the net force on the top block in terms of T₁, T₂, and F_g

(b)What is the net force on the bottom block?

Solution: (a) Acceleration = 9.81 m/s²
T1 = 3.4 x 9.8 = 33.32 N
T2 = 6.8 x 9.8 = 66.64 N

(b) Net force on the bottom block

As the tensions are in same direction so the total force is 33.32+66.64=99.96 N
