Find the x intercepts and y intercepts Find the x intercepts

Find the x intercepts and y intercepts
Find the x intercepts and y intercepts (x - 2)^2 - (y - 1)^2 = 9

Solution

(x-2)2-(y-1)2=9

To find the x intercepts we have to plug y=0

(x-2)2-(0-1)2=9

(x-2)2=10

x-2=+-sqrt10

x=2+-sqrt10

Therefore x intercepts are (2+sqrt10 ,0),(2-sqrt10,0)

To find the y intercept we have to plug x=0

(0-2)2-(y-1)2=10

4-10=(y-1)2

y-10=+-i sqrt6

y=10+-isqrt6

since we are getting imaginary y values, hence there is no y intercept
