Monosaccharide are the simplest form of carbohydrate which cannot be further hydrolyzed into simpler form. Example - Glucose, fructose

Disaccharides are made up of two monosaccharide units which are bonded by ester linkage known as glycosidic bond. Example - Sucrose which is made up of two monosaccharide units - glucose and fructose. Lactose is made up of glucose and galactose.

Polysaccharides are those complex sugars which are made up of several monosaccharide units. These are excellent source of storage energy. Example - Starch
