Find the equation of a line that is perpendicular to the lin
Find the equation of a line that is perpendicular to the line y = 1/3 x + 3 and contains the point (-6, 0). y = (Type your answer in slope-intercept form.)
Solution
The slope of perpendicular lines are the negative reciprocals of each other, and a pair of these lines intersects at 90 degrees
thus M1 * M2 = -1
Given slope M1 = 1/3
So, M2 = -3
So, equation is
y = -3x + c
It passes through ( -6, 0)...Putting this in above equation
0 = -3 * -6 + c
c = -18
So, equation is :
y = -3x - 18
