The outermost covering of the bone is called the periosteum which refers to a layer of protective cells around the bone. Then comes the circumferential lamellae which represent the group of bone tissue packed in the form of a packet/lamella inside which osteocytes are arranged in the form of canaliculi. Deep within these circumferential lamellae reside the endosteum which is a very sensitive and actively growing part of bone tissue. The endosteum itself consists of soft bone marrow residing in the medullary canal and then finally the central part of the bone cross section called the central canal.
Thus, the order of tissues from superficial to deep can be found as below:
Periosteum-circumferential lamellae-endosteum-medullary canal-central canal.
