One employee is in charge of the following activities at the drive-through of a bank: Activity - Activity time Greet customer - 2 seconds Take order - 3 seconds Process order - 2 minutes Print receipt - 10 seconds What is the processing time (in seconds) of the drive-through process?

A. 135

B. 17

C. 4.25

D. 33.75

Solution

Requirement of beverage maker from 8 AM to 8 PM = 300 cases/ hour x 12 hour = 3600

During above 12 hours period , quantum of soda which can be produced @ 200 / hour = 12 x 200 = 2400

Thus shortfall in production during period 8AM – 8 PM = 3600 – 2400 = 1200

Above shortfall has to be produced during period after 8 PM

Since rate of production is 200 / hour, amount of time it will take to produce after 8 PM = 1200 / 200 = 6 hour

And, amount of inventory beverage maker should have as inventory at 8 AM = 1200

THE BEVERAGE MAKER HAVE TO CONTINUE TO MAKE SODA FOR 6 HOURS AFTER 8 PM

THE NUMBER OF CASES BEVERAGE MAKER NEEDS TO HAVE IN INVENTORY AT 8 AM TO ENSURE DISTRIBUTORS WONT HAVE TO WAIT = 1200 CASES

Processing time ( in seconds ) of the drive through process

= Time for Greeting customer + Time for taking order + Time for processing order + Time for printing receipt

= 2 seconds + 3 seconds + 120 seconds ( i.e 2 minutes) + 10 seconds

= 135 seconds

PROCESSING TIME OF THE DRIVE THROUGH PROCESS = 135 SECONDS
