An RLC circuit has R = 180 ohms, L = 10.0 mH, and C = 30 microF. The circuit is connected to a 120 V(rms) source with frequency 800 Hz.

What is the rms voltage across the inductor?

How much does current I lag the voltage £ (e)?

Solution

R = 180 ohm

XL = 2pi f L = 2pi x 800 x 0.01 = 50.27 Ohm

Xc = 1/(2 pi f C) = 1/ (2pi x 800 x 30 x 10^-6) = 6.63 ohm

Z = sqrt[R^2 + (XL- Xc)^2] = 185.2 Ohm

Irms = Vrms / Z = 120 / 185.2 = 0.648 A

Vrms_L == Irma* XL = 0.648 x 50.27 = 32.57 Volt .........Ana

current lag = @ = tan^-1[( XL - Xc) / R ] = tan^-1 ( (50.27 - 6.63)/ 180) = 13.63 deg ..........Ans
