What are the differences between t and beam elements That is

What are the differences between t and beam elements? That is, what degrees of freedom dose each one have? What forces do resist? What kind of element would we have combining the two elements (truss and beam) into one? could that new element for?

Solution

1)

A truss element is two node element used to carry an axial load, thus it has only 1 DOF. Whereas beam element has 6 DOF so they can carry axial, shears, moments and torque.

2)

If the requirement is for both axial, transverse load than beam element can be used because it can compute axial stress, bending and shear stress also.
