What is the difference between a pattern and a core in sand
What is the difference between a pattern and a core in sand molding? What are some of the factors that affect the fluidity of a molten metal during pouring into a mold cavity? Why should turbulent flow of molten metal into the mold be avoided?
Solution
4. A patten is a replica of the final object to be made with some modifications while the core is used for making hollow cavities in castings. During sand moulding, a mold cavity is formed using a pattern, such that we get a casting when the molten metal is poured into the cavity, but if a hollow cavity is required in the casting, then core comes into play.
