Give example of some light sources that produce a band spect
Solution
Answer:
Band Spectra is alsoknown as molecular spectra: A spectrum consisting of groups or bands of closely spaced lines in emission or absorption, characteristic of molecular gases and chemical compounds.
Three types of band spectra;
(1) Electronic spectra: Thses spectra are observed , both in visible and UV regions. This can be observed for heteronuclear as well as for homonuclear dia- atomic molecule.
(2) Vibrational- rotational spectra: These spectra are observed in absorption , in near infrared region ( 1 micron to 10 micron). They are observed for only heteronuclear nuclei. Molecules like N2, O2, H2 don\'t produce this spectra.
(3) Rotational spectra: observed in absorption in the far infrared region (100 - 1000 micrometer) and obseved for heteronuclear molecule only.
Sources of band spectra :
A halogen bulb
Fluoroscent Bulb, Na Light, Mercury light etc
