Bowling balls are roughly the same size, but come in a variety of weights. Given its official radius of roughly 0.109 m, calculate the heaviest bowling ball that will float in a fluid of density 1.000 × 103 kg/m3.
Solution
when ball is in fluid their are two forces one is gravitational force(donwards)
and buoyancy force(upward) acting on ball.
when gravitational force = buoyancy force
ball will float
buoyancu force = weight of fluid displaced.
Maximum buoyancy force = total volume of ball x density of fluid x g
= (4 pi (0.109^3) / 3) (1 x 10^3)(g)
= 5.42g Or 53.2 N
so maximum weight = 53.2 N
Maximum mass = 5.42 kg ....Ans
