What is the major disadvantage of asexual reproduction compa

What is the major disadvantage of asexual reproduction compared to sexual reproduction? What is the advantage for a species to have alternation of generations? Why is it important that only one sperm cell enter an egg?

Solution

1) in asexual reproduction genetic variations is not possible as in the case of sexual reproduction..!! In asexual reproduction only clones are produced Wheraes in sexual genetically Different organism are produced.

2) we know how plant reproduction has both a gametophyte as well as sporophyte stage. The gametophyte stage which increase genetic diversity within the species. Without this genetic diversity, evoloution and the ability to adapt and change to the latest challenges facing the species would cease to exsist and thus would likely result in the extinction of the species.
The sporophyte stage ensures the survival of the species until the next generation because these spores can survive years in inclimate conditions until good condtions return to the area that are appropriate for growth.

6) it is important so that only one fertilisation is possible with the female egg resulting in a formation of a one zygote otherwise I can result in a formation of a two separate zygote results in formation of twins.!!
