Solution
let the number of Penguins be P and No of bears be B. consider the following two equations
P+B=24 ( no of heads of Penguin +no of heads of Bears)
2P+4B=56 ( 2 legs for penguin and 4 legs for bears ):
multiply the first equation by 2
2P+2B=48 .....1
2P+4B=56 .....2, Subtracting 1 from 2 will give us 2B=8 implies B=4, and using this P=20.
Hence there are 20 penguins and 4 bears are there in the Island
