If a new Wal-Mart opens in your neighborhood and you decide to boycott the store, are you a stakeholder in that Wal-Mart? Why or why not? What kinds of companies attract this level of negativity. Why is the opening of a retailer a bad thing? Is the perception that it would be low end and lessen the value of the community or that it might displace small businesses? Who does it impact beyond you as an individual?

Solution

I wouldn’t be a stakeholder in that Wal-Mart because even though I have an interest (negative interest) on the company I don’t work there and I don’t collect money from Wal-Mart unless I were part of the community where Wal-Mart draws its resources but I don’t think it is the case.

This kind of company brings negative attention because it destroys the local businesses. These local business that are passed from generation to generation cannot compete with the low prices of Wal-Mart, they have to close their doors because they are no longer profitable and the customers will of course go to Wal-Mart to pay less money for the same products or better products.

Every time a new Wal-Mart arrives to the community small business need to shut down because they cannot compete with them, store owners claim that Walmart doesn’t provide the customized customer service experience like small stores and that Walmart employees don’t have the knowledge to sell products but people don’t mind that as long as they pay less money.

Another important aspect of this document regards to the front line employees of Walmart, cashiers and customers services advocates, there are several testimonials from these employees saying the company pays way too low wages and the money they earn they end up giving to Walmart because they need to provide groceries for their family, lack of insurances for the employees and several other complaints.
