Solution
I was leading a group of team members and two members wanted to take day off on a particular day . Both the members maintained the position that they wanted to take day off on that particular day and no amount of convincing helped to make the team members understand. If had understood the interest the team members had for taking off on that particular day, the outcome would have been better.
To improve the outcome, I could have intervened to find out what particular interest the team members had to take day off on that particular day. If I had made more efforts to find out the interest, the relationship between me and team members would have been much better.
In coaching others to focus on interests, it is particularly challenging to find out what interest people hold and many times people do not disclose the real interest they hold. Also people may hold common interests and it becomes very difficult to address the interests of all persons involved.
