Find the equation of the line passes through the point 0 5 a

Find the equation of the line passes through the point (0, -5) and perpendicular to the line, whose equation is x - 2y = 5

Solution

perpendicular to line x - 2y = 5

slope of this line is x - 5 = 2y

y = x/2 - 5/2

slope = 1/2

hence , slope of perpendicular line is negative reciprocal of 1/2

slope of perpendicular line = -2

passes through (0,-5)

y intercept = -5

therefore, standard equation of ;line is y = mx+ b

plugging the values we get the equation

y = -2x - 5

 Find the equation of the line passes through the point (0, -5) and perpendicular to the line, whose equation is x - 2y = 5Solutionperpendicular to line x - 2y
