Supply chain management is the process of managing the supply chain which can be direct or indirect based on the demand. It is the process of management of each unit in terms of the time, effectivity of the process, delivery system, etc. It is the link of the various elements such as Manufacturer, Wholesaler, Retailer and Customer. As the globalisation has changed the life of the supply chain process. It has actually made the process easier as well as complex too. The technological enhancement leads to the true development in it.

The quality is the more important factor in every field of the business. The quality of the product shows that the product is worth of its price. The quality of the process shows that the process is effective. The quality actually matters a lot in the supply chain of the product distribution.

Let us have the scenario. There is a company name WER ltd which is making the soap. Its soaps are very much in demand due to its qualities of Good Smell, Clearing property, medicinal availability and average cost. The company is manufacturing the product by its own resources and mainly focus on the product manufacturing and market demand. Due to its high demand, the supply chain of the company has changed from the direct to the indirect. The still following the same procedure for the delivery of the soap. There are two more units came into the supply chain so, they do not supply the goods on time or there is the time delay in reaching the product to the customers. The other aspects of the issue are that the payments were not made properly. Because of this reason, the company’s product is losing its popularity now. There is no defect in the product but still it is losing its market. The reason behind is the not management of supply chain properly.

The Quality concept would be clearer from the above scenario. The Quality management is also the part of the supply chain management.

The theories related to the supply chain management are more in number but it is the requirement or the demand of the company that which they have to follow. Some of them are as follows:

The supply chain management theory such as the Five Forces of the porter explains that the process has been analysed by the help of five forces that are Political and Legal, Environmental, Social, Economic, Ethics and Technology. These factors analysis would be done for the management of the supply chain and could be rectified. It makes the management easier as the factors has been identified.

The Cause and effect theory is useful when the problem happened before and then based on that the effective measures has to be taken. It actually gives the experience to the management team that if this happens then we need to do this.

The process driven qualities are the qualities which are generated when a certain process has been followed. By the following the process one can easily understand about the pros and cons of the process. Then after it would be modified as per the quality needed by the company.

The customer driven quality is the qualities which are generated based on the customer feedbacks and reviews. As per the customer expectation the qualities are added to the supply chain process or in the business. The customers are the originator of the quality here.

The example for the customer driven is the DHL the world largest mail and logistics services company. This company tackles the customer experiences and make then mound in their business. It enhances the quality of their business. Samsung can be the set of another example for this.

The example for the process driven qualities are with Apple and Amazon. They both work on the process driven business. They find their unique way or process for their product to reach with the customer ends. They rectify with it but follow the same process as it is the base of its whole business. The prediction or interpretation done by other is very difficult in this case.

The quality theories impact various industries such as manufacturing and the service industries. As I explained earlier that as much as the quality is required in doing the business, this is so because it creates the value and image to the process or the product. The worth of the process has been measured by its quality. The Quality theories impacted as they find out the factors which effects the quality of the business, they provide the way how to deal with the quality issues, issues related to the quality what should they indicates, the solutions for the better-quality management, what needs to be followed for acquiring it etc. The quality contains the advancement of the resource utilisation too in the business. Quality theories explains that the factors such that the environment, political aspects, laws in the country, technology involved in it, social life of the country and the economic conditions etc how they effect it.

The quality is actually a product fitness for the use with the certain characteristics in it. The quality management process involves quality engineering, quality control, and quality management.

The example in the manufacturing sector of Quality is That in order to meet the customer needs and the identification of the functional requirements for the product designers the effective market research is needed. This is because it added the specific designing to the product which satisfies the customer needs. The product designer should be very careful while designing the product as the product should not be over or under engineered. The industrial engineering should be used for selection of the special technology in the product. The packaging of the product, its shipping and labelling and warehousing have the responsibility of ensuring the proper delivery of the products in transit.

The example for the service sector is that they focus on the physical appearance of the services they provide. For example, a hotel quality would be determined by its technical specifications of the room, the facility provided in the room and the how cosy and peaceful the room is for the customer. They do not look for the product orientation but they pay the significant attention to the customers behaviour.
