Fermentative fueling requires a continuous generation of end products. However,  the continuous fermentation is disturbed since the mash in the fermentation vessels gradually gets poisoned by acid-fermenting microorganisms. These inturrupt the process by causing chemical reactions that are different from the alcohol production. To avoid this problem, it is necessary to maintain the pH in the vessels which enables the fermentation end products ty o achieve redox balance.
