Why do some trees shed their leaves in winter? What does the tree do in winter?

Solution

plants shed their leaves in winter which are called deciduous..

uses are-- 1. leaves lose water through a process called TRANSPIRATION. so in winter and dry conditions when there is scarcity of water,, if the plants shed leaves then there is relative conservation of water.

so in winter when is there ice with poor water flow...great amount of water loss can be prevented by prior shedding..

2. in cold conditions the leaves tend to get severely damaged , and it takes much energy to replenish ...instead its good to shed them off..

3.wide surface of leaves leads to accumulation of snow and due to weight the branches can break...so by shedding this can be prevented
