A step up transformer is powered by a 110 V line and supplies 2 A on the secondary side. The secondary coil has a 25:1 turn ratio with the primary coil. Assume 100% efficiency. a) What is the current on the primary side? b) What is the peak power output on the secondary side?

Solution

Volatge on secondary V \' = 110 volt

Current in secondary i \' = 2 A

Number of truns in primary N = N

Number of truns in secondary N \' = N \'

Given N \' / N = 25 / 1

(a). We know i \' / i = N / N \'

                           = 1/25

From this current in primary i = 25 i \'

                                           = 25(2 A)

                                           = 50 A

(b).Peak power in secondary = V \' i \'

                                          = 110 x 2

                                          = 220 W
