Review 10: In our rdt protocols, why do we need to introduce timers?      Text book-----Jim Kurose and Keith Ross,”Computer Networking – A Top-Down Approach”, Addison-Wesley, Seventh Edition, 2017. ISBN-13: 978-0-13-359414-0

Solution

The reason for the necessity to introduce timers in rdt protocols is to handle losses within the channel.

The timers ar wont to keep track of your time the packet is to be transmitted.

For a packet that\'s transmitted, if the ACK isn\'t received inside the length of the timer, then it\'s thought of that the packet is lost.

In order to avoid loss within the channel, the packet is retransmitted once more
