Why are DRP experiments typically conducted by incubating cancer cells in the presence of drug(s) for 72 hours?
Solution
Majority of the cancerous cell lines used by researchers aroung the globe have a doubling time between 18 to 25 hours. Therefore, incubating the cancerous cell lines with drug for 24 hours or less is too short to observe any significant effect on cell viabilty. National institute of cancer at US has tested approximately 1 million drug compounds on cancerous cell lines and they observed that the drugs tested effected cancerous cell growth only after 48 hours of incubation with the drug. That is the reason why DRP experiments are typically conducted by incubating cancer cells in the presence of drug(s) for 72 hours.
