Describe the 4 blood types what are the characteristics of e
Solution
Human blood is classified according to the presence or absence of markers found on the red blood cells and plasma.
If any other blood group is introduced in to the body other than its own type, the body develops antibodies resulting in the immune response. The antigen antibody reaction results in the agglutination of blood or clumping of blood leading to death.
Based on the presence of type of markers or antigens on the blood cells, Blood grouping is done. It is called ABO grouping system.
1. Type A blood group : people with this blood group consists of antigen A and anti B antibodies. Person with this blood group can donate blood to A and AB groups and receive blood from A and O group persons.
2. Type B blood group : People with this blood group consists of Antigen B and anti A antibodies. Person with this blood group can donate blood to B and AB groups but can receive only from B and O groups.
3. Type AB blood group: People with this type of blood group contain both the antigens A and B but do not contain both Anti A and Anti B antibodies. As the people with this group do not have any antibodies they are the universal recipients. They can receive from A, B, AB and O blood group persons. They can donate only to AB blood group.
4. Type O blood group: people with this blood group contain neither of the antigens A and B but contain both Anti A and Anti B antibodies. Hence this blood group can donate blood to People with A, B, AB and O groups. It can receive blood from Only O type of blood group.
Rh grouping of blood : Based on the presence of Rh antibodies in the blood, grouping of blood is done as Rh positive and Rh negative.
Rh positive people can receive Rh negative blood but Rh negative blood cannot receive Rh positive blood.
If mismatch occurs in transfusion of blood, death occurs
A blood group person is having Antigen A and Antibody for B. O Blood group does not contain both of the Antigens. But both antibodies for A and B are present. So a person with A blood group is not supposed to donate blood to O group because the antigen of A blood group and Antibodies of O group react together and forms clumping of blood leading to serious effects like death.
Hence A blood group person cannot donate blood to O blood group person.
